Wow! Your room is gorgeous! Lucky kids...
ReplyDeleteYour classroom is what teacher's dreams are made of! There is so much to look at. Would you mind sharing how the "Warning Worm" is used in your class?
ReplyDeleteHi Roberta! I am SO sorry I never responded!!!
ReplyDeleteHere's how it works: Each child will begin every day on the green circle on the Warning Worm. 1st intervention: The student will receive a verbal warning. 2nd intervention: The student will move their name to the yellow circle and go to the Thinking Chair. 3rd intervention: The student will receive another verbal warning. 4th intervention: The student will move their name to the red circle and will receive a note home. Dangerous behaviors result in going straight to the office.
It works well! I am considering using the blue circle for students that go "above and beyond" being good! :)
I LOVE your classroom! What cute ideas!! Quick question-where did you get those curtains??
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I actually made them! I bought the fabric here: http://www.premierprintsfabric.com/zzggbt.shtml and hung them using a dowel and extra large command hooks!
ReplyDeleteI love your school room! Do you have an online resource to order some of the things you've put on the walls? I would lve to put the months, days of the week, etc in our playroom for my 4 year old. We don't have an educational store near us.
ReplyDeleteI mostly shop at our local sore (that has an online shopping website, too).http://catalog.parentteacherstoreusa.com/
ReplyDeleteBut, my other two favorites are :

Hope that helps!
I actually just googled and found my Days of the Week poster (which I cut up for my classroom).

Random question but where is your desk in the classroom??
ReplyDeleteHi Beth!
ReplyDeleteI don't use a traditional teachers desk (I feel it just simply collected clutter and took up TOO much space). I use the kidney table as my "desk." I have my teacher chair behind it and If you look closely at the first picture you can see multiple plastic drawers where I kept all my "desk" stuff. I love having it this way... therefore I'm held accountable to file things immediately (or at least put them in my "to file" drawer) so that my kidney table it always ready for small groups and interventions. I am working on setting up my room as we speak and I'll be sure to post more detailed pictures. Hope that helps!
Where did you get the letters for "Welcome to our nest" outside your door?
ReplyDeletethanks

I love your classroom layout. Everything is neat and organized. Your classroom carpet really stands out and helps all the colors pop throughout the room.

Fourth Grade Garden
Your blog looks great, I am looking forward to checking it out. Congrats on being featured on YHL! I teach Kindergarten also and have a couple of questions about your classroom (it looks so cheery and functional). Would you mind sharing what you store in the gray tubs with the letters of the alphabet on them and some of the Word Work manipulatives are that you use? I am always looking for new ideas to go with D5. Don't you just love 5 year olds?! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone!
ReplyDeleteAmanda, I got the letters from our local Parent-Teacher store and pieced them together! :) http://www.parentteacherstoreusa.com/
Debra, The alphabet tubs that I use for my leveled books are actually green (terrible picture) and they're from target. This is them (in white- and a much better deal than I got)! http://www.target.com/p/sterilite-medium-stacking-basket-pack-of-6/-/A-12981148
Our favorite WW manipulatives are plastic letters, wiki sticks, and pattern blocks. We love the ABCs made out of pattern blocks ... we copied them and made sight word templates! http://www.makinglearningfun.com/themepages/Alphabet-PatternBlocks.html
5 year olds crack me up! I'm already ready to get back to school. Remind me I said that in September!!
Your classroom is what I would like to achieve in my own kindergarten classroom....neat! I am extremely organized and CAN'T STAND CLUTTER!!! Some of the areas in a kindergarten classroom, such as the "kitchen" and "block" area, require huge amounts of storage so that you can change these areas around during the course of the school year. I cannot see either of these two "choice" areas in your classroom...do you still allow for "free choice" to occur during the day?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I cannot stand clutter either!
DeleteAbout 5 years ago, our school got rid of the kitchen area, etc. We only do "free choice" time once a week (when we don't have a special) or for indoor recess when it is raining. The rest of our day is strictly academic, but fun! Our kiddos have choice each day during our reading block (we use a Daily5 format) and also during math work stations. They actually ask to Daily5 during indoor recess!! I guess our day operates more like a traditional 1st grade classroom.... so I am lucky and don't have to find a place for ALL the typical center stuff. I have a small area under my dry-erase board with blocks, etc. I'm hoping to get my room finished in the next week or so and will post pictures!
Love your room! Is the border on your bulletin board fabric that you hot glued?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shannon! It is actually just crinkled butcher paper! :)
Deletestapled on!
DeleteWhat are some of the Authors topics. I love this idea.
ReplyDeleteI actually found them on a blog, and now for the life of me I can't remember which one. They are great! All the "favorites" ... color, subject, etc. Holidays, friends, pets, family, and so on. If I can find them again, I'll share the link!
DeleteWow,your room is amazing. I'm starting my first year of teaching this fall and I'm stressing over how my classroom should look. Your classroom helped me out with a few ideas! Thanks for posting this. I will definitely follow your blog throughout the year for other ideas! :)
ReplyDeleteYour room looks fabulous! Will you come and organize mine. I have been teaching for 19 years and I have tons of stuff I need to let go of, but its hard to know where to begin!
ReplyDeleteHi Candy!! Have you read Math Work Stations by Debbie Dillar? She has a GREAT chapter on how to start to purge. I guess one benefit of being a new teacher is not having too much to organize! :)
DeleteI LOVE your classroom!! I found you via Pinterest and now I'm going to have to pin some of your ideas too! :) I'm actually having a Linky party that's all about before & after classroom pictures and I'd love to have you link up this post! Glad to have found you so we can share ideas!!
ReplyDeleteLittle Miss Glamour Goes to Kindergarten
Thanks!! I just joined it. I'll be following for sure! I just saw that you are expecting. We are too- due in December... and I'm sorta nervous about teaching K in the 3rd trimester!
DeleteI too found your post via pinterest. You have done a beautiful job on your classroom! May I ask...do you remember where you got the white shelf that has the plastic boxes on it with the aqua lids? I like the spacing of the shelf for the plastic shoe box size.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
It was actually a yard sale find! I love its size and shape.
